This virtual event is designed to educate growers, distributors of food and food products manufacturers, as well as systems integrators and other implementers, regarding the benefits of using RFID to track the location and monitor the temperature of food and beverages as they move through the supply chain. Hear about the current state of RFID technology, and learn how your organization can deploy the technology to achieve such benefits today. Also, gain an understanding of the various applications of RFID technology in the food industry (supply chain management, temperature monitoring of food and beverages) and how RFID technology is being used for food safety management.

The Foundational Future of Food: Supply Chain Digitization
When every physical product has a digital identity that connects the “who, what and where” of every product at every step of the supply chain, restaurants, grocers and brands can easily share accurate data with providers, distributors and customers. From source to store in the post-COVID-19 new normal, the food industry is facing increasing pressure to be faster, more transparent and more productive. This session will explore the latest trends in food retail and some of the ways in which grocers and restaurants are using RFID technologies to improve their visibility and efficiency, and to ultimately reduce waste.
Speaker: Julie Vargas, Director, Global RFID Market Development, Food and Intelligent Labels, Avery Dennison

Wendy’s Improves Traceability With RFID
Wendy’s Quality Supply Chain Co-op (QSCC) conducted an in-store RFID pilot at an Ohio restaurant. By placing RFID tags on product delivered to the restaurant, the store was able to quickly perform cycle counts. In addition to traceability benefits, the restaurant also realized operational benefits.
Speaker: Dan Bromberg, Senior Manager, Distribution Support and Traceability, Wendy’s Quality Supply Chain Co-op

The presenters will explore the difference between inventory visibility and traceability; explain the FDA Blueprint for Smarter Food Safety; and dive into the business benefits of traceability and how standards enable business processes by lowering the cost of adoption and removing barriers. They will also discuss how to build a common language and explore the digital-to-physical connection. This timely presentation will coincide with the FDA’s guidance on traceability recordkeeping for high-risk foods, the Section 204 Food Safety Modernization Act, and the USDA drive for transparency for organic products.

IoT Intelligence Ensures Product Quality and Improves Supply Chain Efficiency for Bega Cheese
Australia’s Swinburne University of Technology has a number of Internet of Things-based pilots under way, each aimed at improving the quality of products companies produce, as well as making supply chains and operations more efficient. The projects include the testing of sensor-based technology and the data it can provide, along with analytics, alerting and other intelligence extrapolated from that data. Learn how Bega Cheese, an Australian food company, is using a solution developed by Swinburne University of Technology and Software AG to track the quality of milk produced at dairy farms throughout the State of Victoria. Bega Cheese is testing the technology to monitor the milk’s quality, when it was picked up and when it was delivered to the firm’s processing site. The presenter will share how the solution provides full traceability and visibility of the milk, from farm to processing, and how it enhances supply chain productivity and competitiveness.
Speaker: Dimitrio Georgakopoulos, Director, Internet of Things Lab & Industry 4.0 Program Leader, Manufacturing Futures Research Institute, Swinburne University of Technology
